Have you recently lost your job or were you laid off due to the pandemic? Damn, this was unexpected. Now what next? You start nervously applying everywhere just like any other job seeker would do. Now some of you might get lucky and receive calls for a virtual interview or in person (depending on the seriousness of the virus in your area, I’d say virtual due to our circumstances). Those of you who didn’t get a call, that’s okay. According to Statista, Canada is at a current unemployment rate of 7.47% which is a lot. It’s not you but our current situation. So don’t feel bad about it. We’re all in the same boat going in different directions.

This article is dedicated to all those who have received an interview follow up or are just prepping for future interviews. I will be posting another article on tricks for job seekers. So keep an eye for that and don’t lose hope.
I’ve divided my hacks into 5 super awesome stages. Without any further blabbering, let’s jump into the article.
1) Stage 1: Investigation
Am I a detective or what? Well, yes something like that. What I mean by this is do a thorough research on the company you’re applying to. I suggest, using LinkedIn to look up on the company and see what they’ve been up to. Learning about their products would give you an idea of what you’re getting into. Even if you don’t like the company’s mission/vision, I’d suggest you to go for the interview anyways. Yes, you’ll say why to waste the manager and your time, isn’t it? But to my defense, I’d say what if you like the manager or his views on the company. A simple conversation can change perspectives. Trust me, this has happened to me multiple times.
2) Stage 2: Build a rapport
If you like what you see on the company LinkedIn page, I would suggest looking up the existing employees of that company. Reach out to them and ask them about their views about the firm or its culture. Sometimes, you may get way more insights then you initially determined plus fingers crossed, if you get the job, viola- you’ve made new friends.
3) Stage 3: Groundwork
Nothing is possible without preparing yourself for a war. Wait, did I just say war? Haha, well I don’t regret saying it. Come up with 10 top popular interview questions and start rehearsing it. I always feel that saying it aloud to myself helps me with my confidence. I personally do not like practicing with someone else as I feel anxious. Instead I prep alone. It makes me calm. Practice it 2-3 times until you feel you’re ready.
4) Stage 4: Pick your uniform
It’s important to feel confident with what you wear. I suggest picking up attires the night before. It gives you plenty of time to decide. Wear outfits that are breathable but professional as well. I usually opt for light colors but again it depends on your personality. I strongly disapprove bright colors like RED or YELLOW. Try them to see if you want to mix and match. Throw in some classy accessories if you like. And this goes for virtual interviews as well. It gives you a vibe of going for an in person interview and it should be treated the same.
5) Final Stage: You’re a warrior
Yes, you read that right. Prepping for an interview is like prepping for a war. And this can lead to stress. For this, you’ll need two ingredients in the final stage and it works exactly like magical dust. What I’m talking about is confidence and positivity. That my friends are my favorite factors that would potentially contribute to successful interviews. Feeling confident about your research, experience and skills can create a great impression on the hiring manager and boost your overall mood as well. So get out there and nail it. You got this.
Interviews can be nerve wrecking but always remember, its not the end of the world. You’re adding value to the company. They need you as much as you need them. All the very best and be yourself.
Don’t forget to come and say “Hi” on Instagram handle. Do share it with your friends and family or those who are getting prepped with their interviews. It will really help them.
Until next time you’ll beautiful people
